Hi, I'm Melissa!
It all started with a mission in my own household. When I learned about the ways that so many common household products unnecessarily cause harm and pain to my four-legged, fluffy, or feathered friends (animals), I decided to do something about it. My husband was on-board too.
Gradually, yet as soon as we feasibly could, we began searching for and switching to more cruelty-free household products. It quickly became clear to me that there are a whole lot of blogs out there when it comes to cruelty-free shopping, but so many of them seem to be endorsing products with parent companies that animal test unnecessarily. It's best to avoid this at all costs if you can.. and I'll prove it to you (more on that later).
..and sure, there are other resources like the Peta blog and Leaping Bunny (which are great to start), but they have their limits. The fact that Leaping Bunny (which certifies companies against animal testing) doesn't necessarily mean a brand is totally clean of unnecessary animal products and the fact that the Peta blog often makes exceptions for brands filtering money up to less than good-willed parent companies makes using those resources tricky!
I'm here to blog on Check it Out Cruelty-Free because I'm a real stickler for going for the gold standard or as good as it gets when it comes to a product I'm going to use. No brand is perfect, but in many cases we can do better than the commonly known recommendations. It can take a little digging and perseverance.. but that's why i'm here! If you're here, and you care about trying to keep products out of your home that harm animals (no-kidding.), you aren't alone.
